The FULL Extent of His Love

"It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for Him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved His own who were in the world, He now showed them the full extent of His love." John 13:1

This beautiful scene follows those words:

After the meal was over, Jesus got up and took off His coat and wrapped a towel around His waist. He poured water into a basin. Then He began to wash the disciples feet. Until He came to Peter, who refused to have Jesus do that for him. He couldn't quite grasp that his Master, his Lord would stoop so low as to wash his feet. Jesus explained that unless He did this for him, Peter would have no part of Him. To which we see Peter's response in John 13:9:

"Then, Lord, "Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"

Peter still didn't get it.

Jesus explained that after a person has had a bath, he only needs to have his feet washed because the whole body was already clean. In the context of the times, it was usual for a person to have his feet washed upon entering a home. The streets were not paved and were dusty. The washing of feet was to remove the street dirt, not to get your whole body clean.

Do I get it?

Jesus, my Lord, my King, my Master went to the Cross and died a horrible death, suffering under the weight of the sins of the whole world. My sins. That one act paid the price for sin FOREVER.

That is love.

But it is not the FULL extent on His love.

The FULL extent of His love for me is that He keeps on forgiving me. He washes my sin away. There is NOTHING that can separate His love from me.

"Wash me and I will be whiter than snow." Psalm 51:7
