Water Walking

Here I was in Israel, on a boat, crossing the Sea of Galilee from one side to the other. Just like the disciples did. Except this boat had a motor. Theirs didn't. I looked out over the expanse of fresh water. And I imagined... Jesus had multiplied 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish to feed 5,000 men plus women and children. While He was saying goodbye to the crowd, He told the disciples to get in a boat and go on ahead on Him to the other side of the lake. He then went up to the mountainside by Himself to pray. When they were about 3 or 4 miles out, the wind picked up and the waters grew rough. Then they saw Jesus walking on the water, coming toward them, and they were terrified. Understandably. Jesus said to them, "It is I, don't be afraid." It was a beautiful clear day when we crossed the Sea of Galilee. I asked David, our tour guide, about the storm in John 6, seeming unlikely as we glided across the smooth surface. He assured me he had witnessed rough waters right here, as the weather can quickly change. I could only imagine the terror the disciples experienced as they were rowing across the stormy waters in the dark and along comes Jesus, not in a boat, not swimming, but walking on top of the water! I teared up again with the wonder of it all. I came to Israel to fulfill the desire God gave me to go where Jesus walked. And here I was, on a boat, crossing the Sea of Galilee... ...where Jesus walked. "You have granted him the desire of his heart and have not withheld the request of his lips." Psalm 21:2
